Three New Haven metal-finishing businesses companies have been fined $743,500 in civil penalties for violating the state’s hazardous waste and air pollution laws, Attorney General George Jepsen announced.
The companies are Suraci Inc., Suraci Metal Finishing LLC and Suraci Paint & Powder Coating LLC. They are run by Bruno Suraci Jr.
Regulators alleged in court that Suraci’s businesses exposed employees and the environment to hazardous waste that was improperly stored and labeled and lacked necessary permits.
The hazardous waste named in the state’s complaint included waste paint, solvent-contaminated materials, spent process baths, burn off ash and other materials.
