New Haven Biz celebrated the launch of its new print magazine last night with an event at Roìa restaurant in downtown New Haven. About 50 people gathered to mark the debut of the magazine, the only business-to-business publication currently in print in the New Haven area.
“There’s an information black hole pertaining to local business, and we’re here now to fill that hole up – to fill it with information that helps our readers run their companies better, and smarter. Information from our advertisers to let their clients know why they should buy from them, and not their competitors,” said New Haven Biz Editor Michael C. Bingham. “We’re here today to thank you for standing with us, and we’ll be here tomorrow to serve you.”
New Haven Economic Development Administrator Matthew Nemerson spoke of the need for a critical approach to covering business in the city. Skeptical reporting is needed to keep the local business community honest, he said.
“This is a time for business leaders and their companies to step up and engage in true civic leadership about many things including their responsibilities to urban communities in Connecticut,” Nemerson said. “Having an honest and at times tough business-oriented press – not a business booster press – is what we need.”
