New Haven-based Precipio Inc., a cancer diagnostics company, recently reported to federal authorities a data breach that occurred in November and possibly affected more than 500 people.
The incident was submitted on Jan. 23 to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, which maintains a national breach portal. The portal states the number of affected people was 501.
According to a
“notice of data event” posted on Pricipio’s website, on or about Nov. 25, 2025, company officials became aware that an “unauthorized user accessed an employee’s cloud-based storage account.”
Precipio said it responded by initiating an investigation to determine the full scope and nature of the unauthorized activity, including hiring “third-party cybersecurity specialists.”
The investigation determined that the unauthorized access occurred on Nov. 23, 2025, “and that certain files within the account were copied without authorization.”
Precipio said it conducted an “extensive review” of the files to determine what information was present and to whom it is related.
On Dec. 4, the company released a statement reporting that the initial findings of the investigation show that the majority of the accessed files contained “previously used operational procedures, temperature logs, vendor invoices and similar historical information which poses no risk or damage to the company.”
It added that no patient Social Security numbers, addresses or other patient financial information was included, and that no company proprietary or financial data was included in the folders that were breached.
Precipio said the investigation continues, but its “current assessment strongly suggests that the incident was limited in scope and that our systems are stable.”
Company officials did not respond to requests for comment.
