New Haven Bank gets state nod for West Haven branch

New Haven Bank secured approval from the Connecticut Department of Banking this month to establish a full-service branch in West Haven.

The bank plans to open the branch at 636 Campbell Ave., with a target opening date of August.

The department announced the approval in a May news bulletin.

New Haven Bank, formerly Start Community Bank, is located at 299 Whalley Ave., in New Haven. Since 2012, it has been certified as a Community Development Financial Institution, which supports economically underserved communities.

President and CEO Maureen Frank has said the bank aims to expand its geographic footprint and has been looking for properties that would be a good fit.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston approved the bank’s application for the West Haven branch in late April. New Haven Bank is a state-chartered and federally-regulated institution.

The property at 636 Campbell Ave. has been owned by Pads Properties LLC since 2013, according to the West Haven Assessor’s office. Built in 1920, the building was previously used as a TD Bank.
