The Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston has awarded a $500,000 grant for the acquisition and rehab of the Waverly Townhouses on George Street in New Haven.
The bank said Monday it awarded the funding to The Glendower Group Inc., the Housing Authority of New Haven’s nonprofit redevelopment arm, through United Bank, FHLB Boston’s member bank in the region.
The project involves consolidating three public housing facilities into one and renovating 71 public housing units, according to a description of the project.
The units include a mix of townhouse, garden and walk-up style apartments. Interior work will include kitchen and bath upgrades and conversion to energy-efficient lights, appliances and fixtures.
The New Haven grant was among $4.2 million awarded through the bank’s affordable housing program for 171 units in Connecticut. Other projects were located in Hartford, Jewett City, Niantic, Norwalk and Norwich.
