In another sign that virtual care is taking on new importance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care customers in Connecticut will soon be able to choose between in-person and virtual doctor’s appointments.
The insurer’s Virtual ChoiceSM plan, available through large employers starting in September, allows enrollees to opt for in-person visits or care through telehealth provider Doctor On Demand. Virtual visits are available 24/7 and from anywhere in the world via the platform’s website or smartphone app. The new offering extends the telehealth options offered by the insurer’s Simply Virtual plan.
“With the launch of Virtual ChoiceSM, Harvard Pilgrim offers our members the power of flexibility through two virtual health plans, allowing employers to offer plans that best fit the needs and lifestyles of their employees,” said Paul Bartosic, vice president of the Connecticut market.
Harvard Pilgrim finalized its merger with Tufts Health Plan on Jan. 1, creating one of the nation’s largest nonprofit insurers.
