A new craft beer business, Caius Farm Brewery, launched this past weekend in Branford and features a barn with a brewhouse and open-style taproom.
It produces brews such as Arminius, named after a Germanic chieftain, with notes of dark chocolate fudge, chocolate-covered espresso beans, caramel and cacao powder. Another of its offerings, Apicius I, has notes of peach and is named after Roman epicure Marcus Gavius Apicius.
Caius Mergy, entrepreneur and brewer, hosted a grand opening for his new business, at 101 North Branford Rd., on March 10.
“I just want to share my passion for the industry with the local community and keep it as a small family-oriented brewery,” Mergy said.
The site features a newly-built 6,500-square-foot, Roman basilica-style barn with a brewhouse and taproom. Outside, there is a three-season German-style beer garden. The brewery is on three acres along the Branford River.
The business specializes in German-style beer, with an emphasis on barrel aging. It also features homemade Italian sodas to appeal to those under 21 and anyone seeking a non-alcoholic option. Food trucks will be on the site regularly.
Caius Farm Brewery’s tap room and public spaces are open Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m.; Fridays from 2 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The business is closed to the public Mondays through Wednesdays for manufacturing.
