New Fla. banking regulator suing his bosses

Former state legislator Tom Grady, Florida’s next banking commissioner, is part of a lawsuit against his new bosses that contends that the state failed to pay him and other lawyers more than $1 million that was owed to them, The Associated Press reports.

Grady, 53, was tapped earlier this month by Scott and other members of the Cabinet to take over as the next commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation. Grady has spent his entire legal career dealing with banks, securities and the financial industry.

But while Grady has agreed to not receive any money from the lawsuit his name is still listed in the court case.

Additionally, it is unclear if Grady was paid in exchange for giving up his claims. Grady did not respond to phone calls seeking comment on Wednesday, nor did a Tallahassee attorney who has been working on the lawsuit.

Grady is scheduled to start his new job on Aug. 29. He will be paid more than $133,000.
