New Fanatics Sportsbook opens in CT

The Connecticut Lottery Corp. (CLC) has rolled an 11.

The CLC has opened the state’s 11th retail sportsbook location in partnership with Fanatics Sportsbook and Sportech Inc.

The new location, which opened today, is located at Sportech’s Winners at 24 Burnell Blvd., in Norwalk.

The new Fanatics Sportsbook at Winners Norwalk location, just off Interstate 95, is the CLC’s third in Fairfield County. It features betting windows, eight self-service betting kiosks and many high-definition TVs. It will accept bets for all major sports, including professional and college football, basketball, hockey and baseball, as well as tennis, soccer, golf, MMA and boxing.

Hours of operation for the Norwalk location are 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday,  10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The Norwalk Common Council in September approved a resolution to permit betting at the Norwalk location on Sundays. Betting on Sundays is prohibited by state law unless a municipality approves it.

The Norwalk location joins the state’s 10 other retail sportsbooks, which are located at the XL Center in Hartford, Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Bobby V’s in Stamford and Windsor Locks, Murphy’s Pub & Sports Bar in Manchester, Sports Haven in New Haven and Winners in Hartford, Milford, New Britain, Waterbury.

Andrew Walter, director of sports betting for the Connecticut Lottery Corp., had said in October that the CLC hopes to establish more retail sports betting sites, and had “one project we have signed an agreement on” that is not in an arena. That location was the Norwalk site.

Fanatics Sportsbook, based in Jacksonville, Florida, was named bookmaker for the state in December 2023, succeeding Chicago-based Rush Street Interactive. Rush Street had announced in March 2023 that it decided to exit the market because it wasn’t profitable enough.

The state’s effort to grow its retail sports betting operations has been a mixed bag. Fanatics Sportsbook restaurant and bar at the XL Center opened in September 2023 and struggled to find its footing in year one.

CRDA Executive Director Michael Freimuth said the venue ended the fiscal year with a loss around $500,000, but attributed the loss in part to the change in vendors.

Connecticut sports fans can download the Fanatics Sportsbook app on iOS and Android or visit any retail sports betting location to place a wager.
