New England sustainability proponent New Generation Energy launched a Web site last week to showcase environmentally friendly projects performed by non-profit organizations.
The idea behind the microfunding site – newgenerationenergy.org/list-projects – is to offer individuals a chance to donate to some of their favorite projects across the country. Any non-profit organization can be listed on the site, including family shelters, community centers, schools, universities and churches.
In addition to providing financial support, New Generation Energy hopes the Web site will serve as a billboard to encourage non-profits to make their operations more environmentally friendly.
“A web-based microfunding site dedicated to green energy projects has been needed for a long, long time,” said Chuck Lewin, executive director of New Generation Energy, based in Massachusetts, in a statement. “Non-profits can get funding for their green energy projects, educate the public about their sustainability efforts, and illustrate real world, practical applications of green energy technology.”
