New England largely absent on mfg.-job ranking

U.S. manufacturing jobs, hobbled in recent years by overseas outsourcing, are mounting a comeback that is creating a shortage of workers to fill them, authorities say.

The industry as a whole is adding jobs since 2010, led largely by growth in the Midwest, AmericanMFGjobs.com said Tuesday.

But Massachusetts is the only New England state on a list of the top U.S. states for the most popular manufacturing jobs such as assemblers, engineers, and computer numerical control specialists and managers.

However, AmericanMFGjobs.com said there are still hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs available throughout the nation, and many top employers are having trouble finding skilled workers to fill those positions.
