New Embraer plane takes off with Middletown-made engines

Embraer’s KC-390 plane, which is powered by an engine made in Middletown, took its first flight Tuesday in Brazil.

The aircraft has a V2500-E5 engine made by IAE International Aero Engines AG — an aerospace manufacturing consortium that includes Pratt & Whitney, Japanese Aero Engine Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.

The engines were made at Pratt’s Middletown engine facility.
