New Choate contractor to hire 82 Aramark workers

Foodservice contractor Aramark has informed state officials that it will lay off 82 workers after its contract with Wallingford’s Choate Rosemary Hall was not renewed.

The workers will be hired by the school’s new contractor, Sage Dining Services, according to Choate Spokeswoman Lorraine Connelly.

Connelly said the workers would keep their positions, seniority and pay, and will receive a 3 percent pay increase at the start of the school year in the fall.

Aramark will cease its operations at the private boarding school on Aug. 7, it said in a June 5 letter to the state Department of Labor. Aramark said it was sending the letter to satisfy the requirements of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Clarification: This story and headline have been updated to reflect the fact that Choate’s new dining services contractor will hire all 82 of Aramark’s staff. That information was not immediately available in the originally published version of this story.
