New Britain’s replacement baseball team named

The New Britain Bees will take the field next year, Mayor Erin Stewart said Thursday on Twitter.

The minor league team will play in the Atlantic League, which is unaffiliated with Major League Baseball.

It’s a quick turnaround for the city, which lost its Eastern League team, the Colorado Rockies-affiliated Rock Cats, to Hartford last year.

Now named the Yard Goats, that team is slated to begin playing next year in a stadium currently under construction in Downtown Hartford.

The Bees have launched a Twitter account, but as of noon Thursday, had not yet tweeted.
