New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart’s chief of staff is poised to transition into a new role in the waning days of her administration, as the nominee to fill the recently vacated director of planning and development post.
Jack Benjamin, who had spearheaded planning and development initiatives for New Britain for four years, on Monday took up a new job as economic development director for the City of Hartford.
Justin Dorsey, Stewart’s chief of staff for more than five years, is up for City Council confirmation tonight as New Britain’s head of planning and development.
Stewart, who is not running for reelection and is a likely GOP candidate for governor, will see her term run out in November.
The motion on the agenda says the selection followed an open competitive process that included an oral exam before a panel of council members and planning professionals. Stewart and her assistant corporation counsel, who is also serving as interim chief operations officer, interviewed two finalists, with Stewart ultimately choosing Dorsey.
