Netflix is closing its Bloomfield DVD distribution center, the company confirmed.
The company citing the U.S. Postal Service’s transportation and service changes.
“Netflix has decided to close the Bloomfield DVD distribution center due mainly to United States Postal Service transportation and service changes, along with increased internal production efficiencies, resulting a small number of jobs lost,” Joris Evers, a Netflix spokesman, wrote in an email. “Netflix DVD members in the area will continue to enjoy the same uninterrupted one day service as they have in the past.”
It’s unclear how many people worked at the Blue Hills Avenue facility or whether some will be transferred to other sites.
The move comes as the company has seen steady declines in its DVD-by-mail subscriber base. As of June 30, DVD subscribers numbered 7.5 million, down from 9.2 million during the same quarter last year, according to public filings.
