NBT Bank picks West Hartford location for CT HQ, second branch

Six weeks after announcing its first brick-and-mortar branch in Connecticut, New York-based NBT Bank has settled on the location of its second.

On Thursday, NBT said it recently signed a lease in West Hartford at 433 South Main St., which is known as Corporate Center West. The bank has applied to regulators for permission to offer branch banking from that location, which will serve as its Connecticut regional headquarters.

The announcement coincides with the Department of Banking approval of NBT’s previously disclosed Glastonbury branch, at 2670 Main St., slated to open in the next three months.

“Our presence on both sides of the Connecticut River will enable our growing team of local bankers to further support the business and retail needs of the Greater Hartford community,” Andreas Kapetanopoulos, NBT’s Connecticut president, said in a statement.

NBT, which is publicly traded and has $10.9 billion in assets, began lending in Greater Hartford several years ago with plans to later establish branches.

It’s not the only newcomer to West Hartford. Western Massachusetts lender PeoplesBank recently disclosed plans for a branch at 102 LaSalle Road, which would be the first of several new branches the bank hopes to open over the next few years, adding to the four it has currently.

PeoplesBank entered Connecticut in 2018 through its $60 million purchase of the First National Bank of Suffield.
