NBC Connecticut has awarded a total of $100,000 in grants to three local non-profit organizations as part of a newly launched initiative called 21st Century Solutions.
The University of Connecticut Foundation’s entrepreneurial boot camp program for veterans with disabilities receives $50,000. Grants of $25,000 go to Charter Oak Cultural Center’s vegetable gardening and newspaper initiative to provide employment and opportunity for the homeless, and the Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program’s cyber-gaming math challenge to close the achievement gap among urban students.
The 21st Century Solutions Grant Challenge, done in partnership with the NBCUniversal Foundation, is designed to support high-impact, progressive programs in the categories of arts and media; civic engagement; community development; education; environment; jobs and economic empowerment; and technology.
