West Hartford-based NBC Connecticut is set to release a documentary next week about Hartford’s fondly remembered NHL hockey team.
The one-hour special, “Hartford Whalers: From Heartbeat to Heartbreak,” debuts on the free NBC Connecticut News streaming channel at 8 p.m. on July 24.
The Hartford Whalers relocated to North Carolina to become the Hurricanes in 1997 — a move many fans who still reside in the Hartford area still decry.
The NBC Connecticut News streaming channel is available on The Roku Channel, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TV Plus, Xumo Play and Google TV.
It will also be available on NBCConnecticut.com and on the NBC Connecticut App.
A TV broadcast premiere of the documentary will air on NBC Connecticut at 7 p.m. July 29.
“We are excited to bring this unique and fascinating documentary to our viewers, retelling the story of our beloved hometown hockey team, and highlighting the lasting impact the Hartford Whalers left on Connecticut sports, pop culture and fans all these years later,” said Tracy Davis, vice president of news for NBC CT.
