Groton submarine builder Electric Boat said it has received a $321.7 million contract option from the U.S. Navy for engineering and design work.
Under the option, the company said it will provide design, engineering, material and logistics support, and research and development activities for active submarines and submersibles. It will also conduct planning, support and modernization activities, training and facility support, and cost reduction support.
The option is a part of a five-year contract that has a potential value of $1.5 billion.
Electric Boat’s engineering and design division, which will conduct the work under the option, has more than 4,400 employees. The entire company has approximately 14,000 employees.
