Gov. M. Jodi Rell is looking for a director to lead the state’s effort to remediate former factory and mill sites, parcels of land with contaminated soil or other environmental hazards, also known as brownfields.
The Department of Economic and Community Development is conducting a search for an executive director for the Office of Brownfield Remediation and Development, the state’s lead office for the redevelopment projects.
“We have been put Connecticut on an anti-sprawl, responsible growth path,” Rell said in a statement. “This national search will bring us to a leaser who … will help Connecticut become a model for the rest of the nation in brownfield redevelopment.”
The governor said vacant, underused properties around the state that, with proper remediation, could be recycled into vibrant areas, boosting local economies and preserving open land.
