A Salt Lake City -based national self-storage company paid $21.7 million for Avon Self-Storage in January.
The sale included 14 buildings on a 10.5-acre property at 190 Old Farms Road in Avon, as well as a house on a small lot surrounded by the storage property.
The facility was sold by Avon Self-Storage LLC, based in Avon, to Trea SP IV Avon CT LLC, in a deal the town logged Jan. 3. The buying limited liability company shares a Salt Lake City address with Extra Storage Space, which describes itself as the second largest operator of self-storage facilities in the U.S.
State business records list Kirk Grimshaw as principal of the buyer. He is vice president and legal counsel for Extra Storage Space.
The Avon facility offers 86,490 square feet of storage in 413 climate-controlled units and 266 more without climate control, according to the Self-Storage Advisory Group of Cushman & Wakefield, which acted as broker to the seller.
The site offered drive-up storage and was 97% occupied when it was advertised for sale, according to the Cushman listing. The property uses personalized keypad entry, monitored gate access, fencing and on-site management.
Extra Self Storage owns or operates more than 1,800 facilities, with a combined 1.3 million units, in 40 states, according to its website.Â
