Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe opened its 16th store in Norwalk last month, the first franchise of the sandwich deli chain in Fairfield County.
G. Matthew Youngs, the franchise owner of the new Nardelli’s at 345 Main Ave., Norwalk, opened his store in March. Youngs said that after years of driving to Nardelli’s in Danbury or Milford he wanted to bring the sandwich shop closer to his home in Fairfield County.
He said he plans to open at least four more Nardelli’s stores in the Fairfield, Greenwich, Stamford, and Westchester areas.
Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe was founded in Waterbury in 1922. Throughout the last century more storefronts have opened across Connecticut.
The three-generation, family-owned chain is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The company is continuing its expansion in 2022 with two other stores — one in East Lyme and another in Sturbridge, Massachusetts — also set to open soon. The Sturbridge location will be Nardelli’s first outside of Connecticut.
