Western Connecticut Health Network’s New Milford Hospital plans a nearly $11 million investment to double the size of its emergency department, officials announced Thursday.
The addition, which requires town approval, would be built into the neighboring hillside of the current emergency department in a park-like setting and include private rooms, an environmentally friendly design and a rooftop garden, officials said.
The expanded emergency department will be named “The Arnhold Emergency Department,” and aims to improve access to care, and enhance privacy and infection control measures, officials said.
New Milford Hospital claims to provide emergency services to more than 20,000 patients annually.
Among the 15 new treatment rooms, new specialty rooms will include a dedicated pediatric treatment room to offer children and their families a more supportive environment.
Additional private patient-care rooms will include two critical-care rooms, a surgical room, an obstetrics-gynecology room, a larger, more efficient triage room, and a central nursing station.
