N. England actors’ guild casts Vernon’s Nelson

Former Connecticut state employees’ union official Susan Nelson of Vernon is the new executive director for the New England local of actors’-theater guild SAG-AFTRA, effective Monday, authorities say.

Since 2008, the 25-year veteran has served as counsel to the Connecticut State Employees’ Association, SEIU Local 2001 in Hartford, officials said Monday.

In addition to her skills with collective bargaining and labor relations, Nelson also has strong background in human resources, organizational development, training, government and politics.

Nelson is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, and is skilled in mediation and negotiation.

Nelson will oversee a staff of six at the New England Local in Boston. She will be officially introduced at the upcoming New England Local annual meeting April 1.

SAG-AFTRA represents more than 165,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other entertainment and media professionals.
