N. Britain firm, Pratt ink $140M bearing pact

New Britain aerospace manufacturer Polamer Precision Inc. says it won a seven-year contract worth $140 million to make bearings locally for Pratt & Whitney Co. geared turbofan jet engines.

Polamer CEO Chris Galik said Thursday his contract-manufacturing outfit will begin production this year of complex bearing compartment hardware for Pratt’s PurePower engines being delivered to Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer and other airframe builders.

Galik said the contract is estimated to generate $140 million in revenue over its term through 2022.

Bearing components are being made in Polamer’s brand new, 152,000-square-foot production plant in The Pinnacle Business Park.

Pratt supply-chain Vice President Sergio Loureiro said the East Hartford engine maker is ramping up to double PurePower production by 2020. Long-term suppliers like Polamer, Loureiro said, who meet Pratt’s standards and have future capacity will share in that growth.
