A Boston hospice chain with a care center in Stonington’s Mystic section has agreed to a $125 million merger with a Louisiana nursing-home/hospice operator.
Beacon Hospice Inc. of Boston and Amedisys Inc., of Baton Rouge, La., announced their definitive merger agreement on Monday.
Founded in 1993, Beacon said it generated about $80 million in 2010 revenue from its 23 free-standing locations and one inpatient units. Eleven are in Massachusetts; five each in Maine and New Hampshire; two in Rhode Island; and Beacon Hospice in Mystic.
The deal is expected to add between a nickel and 7 cents a share net to publicly traded Amerisys’ 2011 earnings.
Amedisys CEO William F. Borne said Beacon complements its home health business, with many of Beacon’s hospice locations matching the market presence of its existing care centers.”
