Alfred E. Smith Jr., a partner at Murtha Cullina, has been appointed as town attorney for Avon.
He succeeds Murtha colleague Dwight Johnson, who has held the position since 1997.
Smith chairs his firm’s regulatory department, co-chairs its municipal practice group, and serves on its environmental practice group.
He was managing partner from 2003 to 2008.
