A multistate cannabis operator is exploring plans to open a hybrid marijuana dispensary in Rocky Hill that would serve both medical patients and adult-use customers.
Shangri-La has submitted a pre-application to the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission as it seeks a zoning text amendment that would allow a cannabis dispensary in Rocky Hill’s C-Commercial zone. The company is evaluating a potential location at 945 Cromwell Ave., according to materials prepared for the commission.
Hybrid retailers are licensed by the state to sell both medical marijuana and adult-use cannabis products from the same location.
The proposal remains in the early stages and would require approval of the zoning text amendment before a dispensary could be permitted in the zone.
Shangri-La said it has begun preliminary discussions with the property owner at the Cromwell Avenue site as it evaluates the potential project.
The Missouri-based company already operates several cannabis dispensaries in Connecticut, including two locations in Norwalk, as well as shops in Waterbury and Plainville. There is a dispensary under construction in East Hartford.
It also has cultivation and manufacturing facilities in Stratford and Waterbury, and said it plans to open five additional dispensaries in 2026.
The pre-application is scheduled to be discussed at the Planning and Zoning Commission’s meeting on March 18 at 6:30 p.m.
