Bad storms on Thursday night left 147,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers without electricity, although the Berlin-based electric utility had restore power to 85,000 as of 5 a.m. today.
CL&P has 155 line crews and 124 tree crews working to restore power to the remaining 62,000 customers. The company doesn’t have an exact estimate for when power will be restored for everyone but is advising customers to prepare for a multi-day outage.
Another 112 crews from Ohio and Michigan will join the restoration effort.
CL&P customers can report power outage by calling 800-286-2000 or 860-947-2000. If installing a generator, CL&P advises customers use a licensed electrician, as improperly installed generators create carbon monoxide hazards and can feed electricity back into power lines, which endangers workers.
The company opened its emergency operations center in Berlin on Thursday evening.
