As part if its $1.7 billion acquisition of sensor technology company MTS Test Systems, Wallingford connector and cable maker Amphenol Corp. announced MTS will sell off its testing and simulation business.
After Amphenol closes its deal to buy Minnesota-based MTS, the company’s test and simulation business will be sold to Illinois Tool Works Inc., which makes engineered fasteners and components, Amphenol CEO R. Adam Norwitt said.
Norwitt said the decision will maximize value for Amphenol shareholders.
“We look forward to completing the acquisition of MTS in the coming months, welcoming the talented MTS Sensors team to the Amphenol organization, and completing the sale of MTS’s Test & Simulation business to ITW,” Norwitt said.
The company’s acquisition of MTS will allow Amphenol to add MTS’ sensor-based products as the company continues its strategy of leaning into sensor technology, Norwitt said last month.
Amphenol’s purchase of MTS marked its eighth acquisition of a sensor-technology company, Norwitt said, but it probably won’t be the last. That’s because the ability to track physical data (i.e. temperature, pressure, motion, etc.) is at the cutting edge of many emerging markets.
