Moving Up

Newly settled at his desk in Hartford, three days after his move from the City of Brotherly Love, Hugo Loureiro is diving in to his new position as account executive with Fox 61 WTIC-TV.

“Fox is a great company,” said Loureiro, “It’s reputable and big.”

“It was a good opportunity to take and get my feet wet.”

Though he works for a television station, Loureiro’s all about sales. With a degree from Penn State University in Telecommunications with a focus in sales, Loureiro has the drive to eventually move up to a management position.

Still charting the waters of his new-fangled digs, Loureiro is mainly meeting with department heads and learning about the area, but is already strategizing on his own sales tactics.

Loureiro, 24, credits his family’s business for his motivation. He was born in Portugal and moved to Philadelphia when he was four as his parents were looking for new opportunities. His family ran a construction company, pouring concrete foundations and basements in developments, where Loureiro helped out over the summer.

Lessons Learned

“I did learn some important lessons from working with my dad. I learned how to work under extreme pressure and deadlines and how to cope with that and meet them in not only a timely manner but also accurately,” he said. “I took great pride in working with him in the family business and always did everything to the best of my abilities.”

While he did learn invaluable lessons, Loureiro realized he wanted to try something new.

“I have thought about owning my own business one day and it may be something that someday I would try. If I had to say right now what type of business it would be, probably a night club or bar,” he said. “I really think I could start one up and be successful with that type of business. I have a firm grasp on what is hot in that industry and what would work as far as attracting people week after week.“

If Loureiro could spend his time doing anything else, he would play football for the Philadelphia Eagles. But for now, he’s scoping out his new pad in Manchester.
