Middlesex Community College has named Reid Smalley as the new dean of Workforce Development, Continuing Education and Community Services. Smalley served as the coordinator of continuing education at Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania for eight years and was the director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, N.Y., for the past 12 years. He also brings an extensive training background in leadership and team building. Smalley will be responsible for overseeing continued development of workforce development opportunities, including new training in electronics and green technologies, online training, and the new, non-credit veterinary assistant program that will be offered this fall. He will lead the expansion of the allied health programs and supervise the development of The Meriden Foundation Allied Health Lab at the Meriden Center. He received a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in training and development from Pennsylvania State University. Smalley relieves Larry Smotroff who has been the interim dean on a part-time basis since September 2009.

Anne McConnell has been promoted to vice president/human resources officer at Rockville Bank. In her new role, McConnell is responsible for employee relations, employee benefit administration, recruitment and payroll management. She joined Rockville Bank in 1995 where her prior positions have included assistant vice president/human resources and benefits and recruiting officer. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management.

Michelle Murphy has been hired as director of sales for the Hampton Inn Hotel in Enfield. She has 10 years of hospitality industry experience and moves to the 108-room Enfield inn from the Hampton Inn Boston/North Shore in Peabody, Mass., where she worked as the director of sales and assistant general manager for two years. Her work experience also includes sales management for two Courtyard by Marriott hotels, and time with the Radisson Hotel brand in both the food and beverage and sales departments. Murphy holds an associate’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from The Boyd School in Pittsburgh. The Enfield Hampton Inn is owned by Buffalo Lodging Associates LLC, a hotel management and development company based in Buffalo, N.Y.

Pullman & Comley LLC has added three litigators — Eliot B. Gersten, Jared M. Alfin and John H. Van Lenten. Gersten, who becomes a partner in the Hartford office, will focus on complex litigation involving businesses, individuals and entrepreneurs from all aspects of business. Most recently he served as lead counsel for the Connecticut Republican Party in successfully challenging the qualifications of Susan Bysiewicz to run for Connecticut Attorney General. He also has a considerable background in business and as a developer and manager of commercial real estate in central Connecticut and western Massachusetts. He has been an initial investor in a number of companies including the Narragansett Beer Company, Waste to Water Environmental, and JDSupra, the worldwide leader in online distribution of legal content and networking for lawyers and clients. He is a member of the executive committee of the Greater Hartford Arts Council and a former member of the board of trustees of the Children’s Science Museum in West Hartford. Alfin has joined the firm as an associate in the Hartford office. He has a broad-based practice focused on commercial litigation, business disputes and criminal defense. Alfin received his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law Van Lenten has joined the firm as an associate based in the Bridgeport office. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and appellate matters in both the federal and state courts. Earlier in his career, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Barry R. Schaller of the Connecticut Appellate Court. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Quinnipiac School of Law.
