Special Olympics Connecticut has hired Christian J. Renstrom as vice president of corporate relations and special events. Renstrom comes to Special Olympics Connecticut with a history of professional success in sales and marketing, event production and management, public and media relations, and publishing. Renstrom most recently served as vice president at The Worx Group. During his tenure there he was responsible for developing new business and growing the company’s large business/corporate client base.

Lou Manzione, dean of the University of Hartford’s College of Engineering, Technology and Architecture, was elected vice president/president-elect of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering for a term beginning July 1. After his two-year term, Manzione automatically serves two years as president. The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering is a private, nonprofit, public-service institution patterned after the National Academy of Sciences.

The Public Relations Society of America Connecticut Valley Chapter recently elected its 2010 board of directors: President, Endia DeCordova-Murphy, of Manchester Community College; treasurer, Laurel Kelly of The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; secretary, Jeuley Ortengren of Loomis Chaffee School, in Windsor; and past-president, Nancy Andrews of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association. Also elected to the 2010 PRSA board of directors: Drew Crandall of Keep in Touch Media Monitoring; Megan Fazio of the University of Hartford; Gary Griffin of Adams and Knight; Jessica Lyon of Co-Communications; Philip Margolis of ING; Karen Paterno of Paterno Communications; and Sara Vincent of Sullivan & LeShane Public Relations.

Farmington Bank announced the appointment of Michael Romanski as senior vice president and senior commercial loan officer of the bank’s new office in Glastonbury. The appointment is effective immediately. Romanski will help lead Farmington Bank’s first branch location east of the Connecticut River. The branch will officially open in April. Romanski has more than 30 years of banking experience in Central Connecticut. Previously, he served as vice president of commercial banking at NewAlliance Bank.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has named Dr. Gail Sullivan as editor of the Journal of Graduate Medical Education, the first peer-reviewed journal focused on all aspects of the education of medical residents and fellows. Sullivan is the associate director for education at the University of Connecticut Center on Aging as well as professor and program director of the geriatric medicine fellowship at the UConn School of Medicine.
