The Hartford has named David Williams medical director of its individual life insurance division and Denise Diana as vice president, retirement plans mid-market to lead new sales and marketing initiatives. Williams will be responsible for providing case consultation and training of the division’s 75 underwriters who together assess nearly 80,000 life insurance applications each year. Williams, who is a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, recently returned from his third tour of duty as a physician in Iraq and Afghanistan. He previously worked at AIG American General Domestic Life Companies and at Ohio National as a vice president and medical director. Williams is board certified in both internal medicine and insurance medicine and has attained the designation as a fellow from the Life Management Institute. He has published nearly 30 articles in the Journal of Insurance Medicine. Diana will create a new team of middle market specialists to support financial advisors, registered investment advisors and consultants and identify mid-market development opportunities. She comes to The Hartford with 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently from Transamerica where she was vice president of business development. She has also held key leadership positions at Prudential Retirement and Cigna.

All Music Direct announced that Ron Cataldi has been appointed as national sales director for the Connecticut-based direct marketing company. Cataldi brings over 20 years of music and entertainment industry experience. Most recently, he has been an independent sales and marketing consultant for a variety of music industry clients including KizUp Records and Turn Up The Music Entertainment. He also was a regional sales manager for K-tel International and Warner Electra Atlantic. Cataldi is the drummer in the Beatles tribune band, Abbey Road.

Hospital for Special Care has appointed Paul Scalise senior vice president of medical affairs. Scalise has been with the hospital since 1993, most recently serving as chief of medicine, a position he has held since 2008. In addition, he has been chief of pulmonary medicine at since 1997. Scalise will remain as chief of medicine, including his roles as chief of pulmonary medicine and medical director of the HSC Hartford Satellite. In his new post, Scalise will oversee quality and patient safety. He also maintained his teaching skills by attending and teaching fellows and residents at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Medicine and became an associate professor of medicine at UConn in 2008..

Daniel J. Munroe, a partner in Capital Management Group, has opened the financial services firm’s Farmington Valley office at 573 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury. The Simsbury native is an attorney and former financial services executive, who brings 15 years of legal, tax planning, and financial services experience to the practice. His background includes managing the estate and business planning advanced markets division of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, as well as its individual life insurance product and marketing development group. In addition, he served as assistant attorney general of Virginia. Capital Management Group oversees over $500 million in clients’ assets. It also has locations in Greenwich as well as in Manhattan and Pearl River, N.Y.

U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi recently named Richard Brown, professor of history emeritus at the University of Connecticut, as chairman of a search committee to find a new director for the Office of the Historian in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Office of the Historian is responsible for providing information and interpretation of important precedents and events for the members of Congress and their staff, the media, students, educators, scholars and the general public. Staff conduct oral histories of current and former members of Congress and advise members on the disposition of their papers. The office also works with the Office of Photography to archive hundreds of thousands of photos. Brown, who came to UConn in 1971, retired last June and is writing a book on equal rights in the early American Republic
