EJ Howard has joined Willis of North America as an assistant vice president in the firm’s Hartford office. Howard will be responsible for the development of new business and the management of existing business in Willis’ employee benefits practice. Howard has more than 10 years of sales experience. Most recently, he held the position of senior account executive with the Hartford Business Journal.

TAB Computer Systems has named Robert Ford, of Hamden, as network technician. Ford is a Microsoft certified systems engineer. In his new role, he is responsible for all facets of client support, including server, desktop, network, and application troubleshooting and installation. During his 10 years in information technology, Ford has supported a wide range of clients including companies such as HP and Unilever as well as a number of small to mid-size firms.

CB Richard Ellie New England (CBRE) announced that Connie Pemmerl has joined the firm as executive vice president, capital markets. Pemmerl will lead CBRE’s business development efforts with national banking institutions and will maintain a particular focus on growing CBRE’s loan sale advisory business. Pemmerl joins CBRE/NE from her private consulting practice where she underwrote and structured real estate transactions, and conducted debt restructurings and workouts. She previously was executive vice president of the commercial real estate group for former Fleet National Bank where she led the first nongovernment-sponsored bulk loan sale by a financial institution. Pemmerl has also served as director of capital markets and portfolio management with Berkshire Mortgage Finance and as director of debt placements with Boston Financial. Pemmerl serves on the board of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Family Services of Rhode Island. Her previous affiliations include New England Women in Real Estate and the Senior Executive Club of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board.

Liansheng Song, M.D., an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, joins the Center for Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Song brings more than 20 years of clinical, academic and research experience. He has trained at the University of Rochester, the University of Washington, Staten Island University Hospital, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Song is a resident of Farmington.

Jodi Eipper-Mains, from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, is one of 75 graduate-student researchers from the U.S. who attended the 60th annual meeting of Nobel laureates and students in Lindau, Germany, from June 27 to July 2. During the meeting, students attended laureates’ lectures and participated in discussions on chemistry, physics and physiology/medicine. Eipper-Mains, of Hartford, is an M.D./Ph.D. student who is studying the effects of cocaine on gene expression in the mouse brain in an effort to characterize the molecular changes that occur as a result of drug use. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from Brown University.

Ray Humphrey has joined Hartford Investment Management Co. as senior vice president and portfolio manager. Humphrey has 20 years of experience in the investment industry, primarily as a trader and portfolio manager for international and global fixed income. He also has an extensive background in derivative products. Most recently, he worked as lead portfolio manager for international and global fixed income products at Neuberger Berman, LLC. Prior to that, he held a similar position with Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., where he managed teams with responsibility for fixed income, money market and enhanced cash products. Humphrey has an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
