Matt Morrell of Hartford has joined American Eagle Federal Credit Union as a mortgage consultant. Morrell brings 12 years of mortgage origination experience to the credit union. Most recently he worked for United Mortgage Finance Group in North Haven. Prior to that, he was a branch manager for People’s United Bank.
University of Connecticut Health Center urologist and researcher John A. Taylor III, M.D., has been awarded a grant from the American Cancer Society to fund his ongoing research on bladder cancer. Taylor, who also is an assistant professor of surgery at the UConn School of Medicine, is one of the region’s few bladder cancer specialists and has continuously received grant support from prestigious sources. The award, officially known as “The American Cancer Society New England Division Mentored Research Scholar Grant in Applied and Clinical Research — Beatrice Cueno,” is for five years in the amount of $729,000.
The Connecticut Society of Association Executives awarded Robert J. Rader, the executive director of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education with their Connecticut Executive of the Year Award. Rader was nominated by fellow association executives and received the distinction at the CSAE annual conference on Nov. 3.

Karen Butler, vice president of communications of the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, received the 2008 MS Motorcycle Ride, its top fundraiser award. Butler, whose grandmother battled multiple sclerosis, raised $4,184 toward the $8,500 that her team collected.
Charles LeConche, business manager for the Connecticut Laborers’ District Council, has been appointed to the Connecticut Employee Misclassification Advisory Board by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell. Established July 1, the six-member Employee Misclassification Advisory Board will advise the joint enforcement commission on employee misclassification issues in the construction industry in the state.
