Bauzá & Associates, a full-service Hispanic marketing communication agency, has hired Jairo Acevedo as an account director at its Hartford office. Acevedo has 20 years of Hispanic marketing experience having worked with Fortune 500 clients such as SC Johnson, Compaq Computer, Bristol-Myers Squib, Citibank, Nabisco and Panasonic in Latin America. Prior to joining Bauzá & Associates, Acevedo was a TV and interactive account executive at Univision & Telefutura in Hartford.

Mihaela Tiru, M.D., has joined the medical and dental staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Tiru received her medical degree from the Titu Maiorescu University Faculty of Medicine, Bucharest, Romania. She served as a resident in family medicine at the Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele Hospital, Bucharest, and as a resident and chief resident in internal medicine at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport. At Saint Francis, she will practice ambulatory medicine as a member of the Saint Francis Medical Group.

Saint Joseph College’s School of Pharmacy announced the appointment of Bruce Edgren, Pharm.D., RPh, as chair, department of pharmacy practice and administration. Edgren joins the college’s new School of Pharmacy which is set to enroll the first year class of students as early as the fall of 2010, pending appropriate approvals. In his new position, Edgren is responsible for the provision of the practice-based educational component of the Saint Joseph College Doctor of Pharmacy Program. He will use his broad base of experience to create a unique program for Saint Joseph College doctoral students. Edgren comes to Saint Joseph College from Maple & Main Consulting LLC in Farmington.

Alternity Healthcare LLC has hired nutritionist and exercise physiologist Cassandra Forsythe-Pribanic, PhD, RD. Forsythe-Pribanic will offer nutrition consultations and work with patients to develop individualized eating programs. She will also conduct exercise assessment and training through the aerobic capacity test and strength, balance and flexibility testing. Forsythe-Pribanic is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in nutrition and a doctorate in exercise science. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Forsythe-Pribanic is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist, sports nutritionist and professional food manager.
