Umar F. Moghul has been elected to the partnership of Murtha Cullina LLP. He will serve as co-chair of the firm’s growing Islamic finance and investment practice. Moghul has represented an array of financial institutions, businesses, joint ventures and high net worth individuals, many of who operate per Islamic principles, in a variety of cutting edge financing transactions. In the realm of real estate, Moghul’s practice has included the establishment of real estate investment funds and one-off financing transactions, a novel Islamic warehouse financing transaction, and the design and documentation of novel Islamic residential, commercial and construction financing products.
Pocket Wireless, which recently entered the Northeast market, has named Debra Shaffer as its marketing manager for the region. In her role at Pocket Wireless, Shaffer will oversee all aspects of the company’s Northeast launch including its multimillion dollar advertising budget. Pocket Wireless is a provider of flat rate, unlimited use wireless voice and data services that offers plans starting as low as $30 a month. Shaffer joins Pocket Wireless from The Zimmerman Agency, headquartered in Tallahassee, Fla., where she served as account director for accounts such as the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Visitor’s Bureau.
Derek T. Werner has been elected to the partnership of Murtha Cullina LLP. Werner represents clients in the area of construction law. He has been involved with construction and renovation projects of public and private schools, health care facilities, office buildings, and commercial developments. Werner is chair of the construction law committee of the young lawyers’ section of the Connecticut Bar Association and serves on the Steering Committee of the Connecticut Young Contractors Forum.
Katie H. Anderson joined Federman, Lally & Remis LLC in Farmington as an audit manager. Anderson was previously director of finance at United Health Group. Donald W. Wells Jr. also joined the audit staff at Federman, Lally & Remis LLC. Wells recently graduated from the University of Connecticut.
