Katherine Harris of Meriden, an assistant professor of physical therapy in the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University, has been elected chief delegate of the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association, an organization dedicated to helping to meet the physical therapy needs of the people of Connecticut through the development and improvement of physical therapy education, practice and research. As a delegate, Harris will be responsible for keeping the CPTA board of directors updated on issues affecting physical therapists.

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters has named Simsbury resident Bill Carew as chairman of its board of directors. The announcement was made recently at the organization’s annual meeting. Carew is a founder, president and CEO of Farmington’s Ovations Benefits Group, the largest independent employee benefits firm in the Northeast.

Irene Martin has been hired by Middlesex Community College as the director of financial aid services. Most recently, Martin was the director of financial aid at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Mass.

Pam Kuhn was recently named program manager of the latest online proprietary incentive program at Barker Specialty in Cheshire. After graduating from Bryant College with a degree in business administration, Kuhn joined Barker in June 2007 as a sales coordinator.

Kathleen M. Roche, M.S., R.N., of Bloomfield, has been named chief operating officer at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. She will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the hospital, including management of information technology, patient care services, quality improvement, therapeutic and diagnostic services, rehabilitation services and other major clinical programs. Roche joined the hospital as vice president for patient care services and chief nursing officer in 2006. She will continue to serve as Saint Francis’ chief nursing officer.
