RBC Wealth Management of Hartford has announced that James Goldman, first vice president — financial consultant, has become a Certified Financial Planner. CFP certification is a process that includes education, examination, experience and ethical requirements. In addition, Goldman is an accredited wealth manager and a member of the 2008 President’s Council with RBC Wealth Management. RBC Wealth Management is a division of RBC Capital Markets Corporation.

Smith Brothers Insurance in Glastonbury has announced two new hires. Craig Meeker has been named business development manager — surety. Kenneth Landy was named employee benefit specialist. Before coming to Smith Brothers Insurance, Meeker and Landy were both with T. D. Banknorth Insurance Agency.

Reid and Riege has announced that Nicholas J. Harding has been named a stockholder of the firm. Harding has been of counsel with Reid and Riege since 2005 and is a member of the firm’s Environmental Practice Area in the Hartford office. Harding has represented manufacturers and others in penalty and permitting proceedings before the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in administrative hearings or in court.

Paul S. Besson has joined Hartford Healthcare and Hartford Hospital as senior vice president of human resources. In this capacity, he will oversee human resources functions for multiple entities within Hartford Healthcare, including Hartford Hospital. Besson was selected following an extensive national search. Besson comes to Hartford after serving more than 20 years at General Electric Company. Most recently, he served as global vice president of human resources-marketing/strategy for GE Money, where he led a cultural transition based on employee value propositions.

Shipman & Goodwin attorney Maurice Headley was recently elected as treasurer of the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association, a volunteer, non-profit, state-wide organization of attorneys, judges, and law students in Connecticut. Crawford represents the collective body of black attorneys in Connecticut, including both the criminal and civil bar, public and private sector employees, and spanning across law firm, corporate and non-profit affiliations. Headley is an associate in the business and finance practice group.
