The Baumer Group has named Mark Barber as president of Baumer Ltd., the company’s U.S. division in Southington. Barber brings to his new position more than 19 years of domestic and international experience. Prior to joining Baumer, he served as president and CEO of Fischer Connectors as well as president and CEO of EAO Switch Corporation, the U.S. subsidiary of EAO SA. Barber holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Pepperdine University. The Switzerland-headquartered Baumer Group produces precision sensors, motion control, and vision technology for the automation market.

Dr. Joby Mathews of West Hartford has joined the medical and dental staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He served as an intern and resident at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Mathews is board eligible in emergency medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine and the Connecticut College of Emergency Physicians. At Saint Francis, Mathews will practice as a member of the hospital’s department of emergency medicine.

West Hartford resident Sandra Morgan, associate professor of management at the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business, has joined the Charter Oak State College Foundation board of directors as faculty representative. For more than 25 years, Morgan has worked with Charter Oak in various capacities including dean of faculty.

The Hartford County Bar Association honored Shipman & Goodwin attorney Sonia Pedraza with its annual pro bono award at its Law Day ceremony held at Hartford Superior Court. Sonia received the award for her work over the past two years with the Pro Se Security Deposit Clinic, where her legal counseling, bilingual skills, patience and compassion are highly valued. The monthly clinic is sponsored jointly by Shipman & Goodwin and Statewide Legal Services to provide advice and assistance to indigent tenants whose landlords have wrongfully withheld security deposits.

Matthew R. Cutri has joined TD Banknorth as a vice president in the commercial lending department in Glastonbury. In his role as a middle market lender, he is responsible for originating middle market financing opportunities directly through companies, private equity firms and financial intermediaries. Prior to joining TD Banknorth, Cutri served as a senior vice president at FirstLight Financial.
