Smith Brothers Insurance in Glastonbury has announced three new hires: Brian Maher was named director, large commercial lines; Erin Bennett was named surety account manager; and Leyna Tremblay was named commercial lines customer service representative. Maher is a former Wendy’s restaurant franchisee who sold his 20 Connecticut stores and became a management consultant. Bennett and Tremblay previously were with TD Banknorth Insurance Agency.

Howard Stanton III recently joined Rockville Bank as controller. Stanton will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the accounting and financial control activities of the bank, its holding company and all subsidiaries. He will provide for the establishment and maintenance of financial and internal controls within the framework of bank policies and objectives and governmental regulations. Stanton most recently, was chief financial officer of First New England Federal Credit Union in East Hartford.

Shipman & Goodwin attorney Robert R. Simpson was recently elected by the Council of the Section of Litigation to serve on the Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is a five member group that is responsible for vetting candidates for leadership positions within the Section of Litigation. In particular, the Advisory Committee is charged with the responsibility of recommending the future Chair of the Section of Litigation. 

Maureen P. Westbrook, vice president, customer service and regulatory affairs at Connecticut Water Co., Clinton, was elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Water Companies. Westbrook’s appointment was made at NAWC’s National Drinking Water Symposium in Orlando, Fla. A Connecticut Water employee for 21 years, Westbrook is a member of NAWC’s government relations and customer service committees, as well as a board member of its New England Chapter. NAWC represents public and private water utilities.

HARC Inc., an organization serving people with intellectual disability and their families in Greater Hartford, has hired Mike Morrissey for the newly created position of development assistant. Morrissey will focus on online and new media opportunities for HARC’s fundraising and marketing. Morrissey, originally from Rhode Island, is a recent graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn., where he received his masters degree in public communication with a focus on nonprofit development. He also previously worked at the publishing company Elsevier Inc. as an editorial assistant for medical textbooks.
