Frederick N. Rowland of Unionville, medical director for Mercy Community Health, has been elected to a two-year term as secretary of the board of directors of the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Rowland, who holds both PhD and MD degrees, also serves as chief of the section of geriatric medicine at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.

Guilmartin, DiPiro & Sokolowski LLC, a certified public accounting firm located in Middletown, named Teresa Opalacz as a partner. She will be responsible for quality control, staff development and client audit compliance services. Opalacz has consulted with GDS since 2001 and has more than 20 years experience as a CPA. She is the first vice president of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce and will assume the role of chairman of the board of directors at the start of the new term on July 1.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage appointed Paula Wilcox sales manager of its office in Glastonbury. Prior to her position in Glastonbury, Wilcox led the company’s Avon and South Windsor offices. As a sales manager, Wilcox was honored recently with the President’s Council award, a prize recognizing sales managers who demonstrate exemplary leadership and management skills.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presented its Award for Public Service to Shipman & Goodwin partner Tim Hollister. He was honored for his dedication and commitment to promoting teen driving safety and making highways safer. The award is the U.S. Department of Transportation’s highest civilian award.

YMCA of the USA, the resource office of the nation’s 2,687 YMCAs, announced the election of four new members to its board of directors, which establishes policy and strategic direction for the nonprofit organization. Among its new members are Christine C. Marcks, president of Prudential Retirement, a business unit of Prudential Financial Inc. Before joining Prudential, she was senior vice president and head of ING Financial Horizons. She also served as an international economist with the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y. announced Bob Knurek, a sales associate in the company’s South Windsor office, has been ranked as the No. 1 sales associate in the Greater Hartford area for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in 2009. He was also the top-producing sales associate in the company’s South Windsor office in 2009.

Radiology Associates of Hartford PC has honored George Stohr with their Doctor of Distinction Award. The award is presented by RAH to a radiologist who has shown exemplary personal and professional development, societal contributions and extraordinary dedication to the education and well being of the community. Dr. Stohr has been with Radiology Associates of Hartford PC since 2007. He practices as an interventional radiologist and varicose vein specialist.

Salisbury Bank announced that Lynn Mohlenhoff recently joined the bank as branch manager of the Sharon office. In this position, Mohlenhoff oversees the management of the branch including organizing, coordinating and directing the ongoing activities of branch personnel. She is also responsible for managing business development and sales programs.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has nominated Pamela Partridge West of Farmington to be a member of the state Board of Education. West is a retired vice president and senior business development officer of U.S. Trust Company. At U.S. Trust, she was responsible for business development in the Greater Hartford region.

Rebecca Stewart has joined Hartford Hospital as director of media relations. In this role, she will oversee the hospital’s media relations strategy and launch a news service. Stewart joins Hartford Hospital from WTIC-TV, Fox 61. There, she anchored newscasts and developed content for news stories. She also wrote a weekly column for The Hartford Courant and maintained a blog on www.ctnow.com.

The South Windsor Chamber of Commerce has formed a Young Business Leaders group. YBL meets monthly and has different event times to accommodate all schedules. Its newly elected co-chairs are Neil Caron of Freedom Mortgage Corporation and Cody Holmes of Hoyt Insurance.
