Asnuntuck Community College recently hired Kathleen Morrison as executive assistant to the president. Morrison comes to Asnuntuck from the California Community College system where she was employed for eight years.

James R. Barnes, president and chief executive officer of Oakleaf Waste Management in East Hartford, has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year national winner in the Services category. He was recently honored at a gala in Palm Springs, Cal.

Pamela Mackenzie, vice president of Comcast’s Hartford-Springfield Area, was recognized with the Career Achievement Award by Women in Cable Telecommunications New England at the Fourth Annual WICT New England Awards Ceremony last week in Boston. The Career Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has had a milestone decade, has significantly impacted the cable industry and is a visionary leader that is highly regarded by her employees and peers.

Ellen D. Rothberg, president and CEO of VNA HealthCare, received the Judith Hriceniak Nursing Award, Excellence in Nursing Leadership from the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice at its annual meeting. The award recognizes a visionary role model in the development and implementation of innovative projects that positively affect the home care environment, a leader who inspires others in creating an environment that fosters development and lifelong learning and collaborates with groups within the agency and community.

Gail LaCoss has joined the Middletown office of Prudential Connecticut Realty as a sales executive. Prior to joining Prudential Connecticut Realty, LaCoss was a licensed practical nurse.

Ethel Walker School Middle School teacher John Monagan, in his second year on the faculty at Walker’s in Simsbury, has won the Promising Practitioner award from the New England League of Middle Schools. Criteria that Monagan met included making a positive difference in the school, fostering community connections, seeking professional development, incorporating activity-based learning and integrating high order thinking.

Capital Workforce Partners has welcomed Danielle Bradley as chief financial officer. Bradley has nearly 15 years of financial experience in both corporate and private industries, and was most recently the operations director of the Wallingford Family YMCA. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and computer science as well as a master’s of business administration from Quinnipiac University.

Catherine E. Burnett of the Peter M. Bakker Agency Inc. of Avon was among a select group of employees at local independent insurance agencies to be recognized as a High Achiever by Travelers Personal Lines. She has been with the agency for nine years. She serves as personal lines manager for the agency.

Lindsey Brough, an environmental engineer in the wastewater practice group at Wright-Pierce, an environmental engineering firm in Middletown, was a member of a multidisciplinary team of Lafayette College students who took top honors in the annual United States Green Building Council Natural Talent Design contest. The Lafayette team was the only undergraduate student team to receive the award in a field of contenders comprised of graduate students and professional design firms.

Peter Begin, founder of TAB Greater Hartford, announced the addition of Steve Porcaro, of 1-4 All Coaching LLC as a facilitator and coach. Porcaro ‘s 25-year career includes 19 years of medical device sales and 15 years of executive coaching. He is the founder and owner of 1-4 All Coaching LLC.

Cynthia Basil Howard has joined the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools as its director of development. She most recently worked in administration for the Gengras Center at Saint Joseph College, where she earned a master’s degree in education.

Richard Taft, president of Business Transfer Alliance LLC of Hartford, recently completed an extensive training program to receive the credential of certified mergers and acquisitions advisor. This credential is awarded by the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors, the international organization devoted to professional M&A advisors working with middle market companies.
