Most Connecticut television stations are delaying conversion of their broadcast signals to digital from analog, but a handful of stations are making the conversion today, the Connecticut Broadcasters Association said.
The three stations ending their analog signals today are: WEDW Bridgeport (PBS), WUVN-TV 18 Hartford (Univision) and WHPX-TV 26 (Independent). Last summer, WSAH (Independent) in Bridgeport switched to digital.
Last week, Congress delayed by four months the nationwide switch from analog TV to digital TV from today’s initial date by four months. Television stations across the nation were given the option of turning off their analog signals as early as today or they can delay the transition as late as June 12.
But most Connecticut TV stations chose to delay to give viewers more time to prepare for the switch, the association said. Those stations include: WCTX-TV 59 (MyNetworkTV); WEDH-TV 24 (PBS); WEDN-TV 53 (PBS); WFSB-TV 3 (CBS); WTIC-TV 61 (FOX); WTNH-TV 8 (ABC); WTXX-TV 20 (CW); and WVIT-TV 30 (NBC). Each of these stations will transition later in the year, on or before the final June 12 deadline.
In January, a Nielsen Media Research reported that Connecticut was more ready than any other U.S. state for the transition to digital TV. That data indicated that only 1.76 percent of the 1 million households in the Hartford-New Haven television market still might have to take steps to prepare for upcoming DTV.
