Mortgage brokers suspended

Another 14 mortgage brokers have had their licenses suspended by the state Department of Banking, continuing a trend that began last fall.

In the last four days of February, the department suspended the licenses due to the cancellations of the brokers’ bond. Of the 14 suspended brokers, only two were Connecticut companies: Anson Funding LLC of Hamden and Tobin Financial Services LLC of Norwalk.

The latest round of suspensions brings the total near 50 since the subprime mortgage crisis hit during the last half of 2007. There are two concurrent task forces, one created by Gov. M. Jodi Rell and one created by Speaker of the House Jim Amann, D-Milford, that are investigating the situation. Their recommendations will include more stringent standards for brokers.
