Nineteen more state employees have received notice they are being laid off, according to an announcement from the state Office of Policy and Management.
That brings to 712 the number of workers that have been cut from the state payroll, out of an executive branch workforce of 31,200 as of March 31, 2016 (excluding higher education), according to an OPM announcement.
The new layoffs come from 8 positions in the Office of Government Accountability and 11 positions in the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, according to an OPM spokesperson.
A judicial department spokesperson said the number of layoffs and terminations stands at 300. The department this week implemented a strict hiring freeze.
A spokesman for House Speaker Brendan Sharkey, who is co-chair of the Committee on Legislative Management, said 7 positions at six legislative commissions that were combined into two will save about $1.4 million. He said most of the cuts were executive directors making more than $100,000.
