Discounter Target Corp. has completed a grocery remodel of its first batch of Connecticut stores and will begin makeovers this summer on a half dozen more as part of an expanded national rollout of fresh produce, meat and other foods to its merchandise lineup.
In March, Target unveiled fresh-food sections in seven of its Connecticut stores in South Windsor, Enfield, Milford, New Britain, North Haven, Orange and Waterford.
Now, the Minneapolis retailer says it will make available by fall its fresh-food layout in six more existing stores in Meriden, Newington, Waterbury, Southington, Windsor, and Ansonia.
Construction on the grocery sections of those six stores will gradually be completed, with the majority opening between now and July.
Inside the expanded Target stores, product assortment may vary but most will stock fresh produce, fresh meat, and frozen and baked goods, the retailer said. The new layout also includes reinventions in several other areas throughout the store such as beauty, home and shoe departments.
Target introduced its grocery concept in 2008 at two of its Minnesota general merchandise stores, and remodeled some 350 stores across the U.S. in 2010.
Its first Connecticut fresh-food section debuted in Lisbon about two years ago.
