Quinnipiac University’s national-champion men’s ice hockey team is set to be celebrated Monday night at a rally at the school’s Hamden arena at 305 Sherman Ave.
Quinnipiac’s squad captured the Division I NCAA title on Saturday night in Tampa, winning 3-2 in overtime over top-ranked Minnesota.
Coach Rand Pecknold led the Quinnipiac Bobcats, which rose from a struggling Division II team to a national contender in recent decades. This year the team went undefeated at home and won 34 games, a program record.
Gov. Ned Lamont is slated to take part in the victory celebration and rally, at the M&T Bank Arena on the university’s York Hill Campus. The event will also be live-streamed at gobobcats.com.
According to a Quinnipiac statement, doors will open at 5 p.m. Monday for the rally, with seating provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans will get a free championship shirt and rally towel while supplies last.
